In 2025, the Buildcorp Foundation invested $1 million in the Second Step® program, in partnership with the NSW Department of Education and Positive Pieces Education.
This initiative brings structured, teacher-led social-emotional learning to NSW public schools, helping students from Kindergarten to Year 6 build resilience, improve behaviour, and enhance learning outcomes.
To date, the Second Step® program has been implemented in over 900 schools across Australia and New Zealand. It is a universal Tier 1 program that aligns with the Australian Curriculum, the NSW PDHPE curriculum, and the NSW Wellbeing Framework for Schools.
Second Step® is a classroom-based program focused on promoting social-emotional competence and self-regulation. It aims to improve school success and reduce challenging behaviours by addressing key risk and protective factors. By equipping students with essential social-emotional skills, the program helps schools foster safe, supportive, and positive learning environments for all.
